New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin praises Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III’s speed
Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3), the second overall pick of this year’s draft, has been receiving some words of appreciation from everyone of late.
Even his opponents do not hesitate to admire the potential this youngster has got. The rookie has changed opinions of many who thought he was not a player of high calibre and now he has even started getting in good books of coaches and officials.
The latest one to appreciate RG3 is New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who has praised the rookie’s speed.
RG3 has developed a reputation of rushing with the ball as well as throwing it, something that most young quarterbacks do, but he has surprisingly attained a lot of success while running the ball.
Although the quarterback has also received a severe injury due to his reliance on rushing game more than passing the ball, the player has so far proven that he has got strong arm as well as quick legs.
This is something that has impressed Coughlin and has somewhat added to his worries as well. Since Giants are going to take on RG3-led Redskins offence for the first time this season on this Sunday, Coughlin wants his defensive line to counter the rookie
and do not allow him to get scoring moves.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Coughlin said of RG3:
“Speed. He’s got incredible speed. He’s got very good poise. He has exceptional speed and play-making ability. He’s a threat as a runner, whether it’s the option or whether he pulls the ball down.”
The Giants head coach added:
“It’s that thing that drives you crazy as a coach on the other sideline. You have everybody covered and the quarterback runs and to run with his speed is…you have to pressure him.”
According to rough estimates, Redskins’ average score per game is around 30 points and it is only because of RG3 that the team has managed to maintain the decent average.
Coughlin also has a plan to control the rookie quarterback. He said of RG3:
“You have to keep him inside. You have to get your hands up in front of him. You have to, hopefully, shut the lanes off.”
