New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin praises quarterback Eli Manning – NFL News
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has praised quarterback Eli Manning, who rescued the team yet another time and secured a victory when the defending champions faced Washington Redskins last Sunday.
Clinching victory from the jaws of defeat has become Manning’s defining trait and he has impressively led the team to many comeback victories of late.
The quarterback’s exceptional ability to perform well under pressure has made even his opponents praise his skills and talent.
Against Redskins, Manning was in extra pressure. After a slow start, his offence managed to get some points in the second quarter, but the third quarter, just like the first quarter, went scoreless for the Giants.
In the final quarter, Redskins had the lead with not much time left on the clock. Manning had to rescue the team, but he was under immense pressure not only because there was so little time left, but because he had earlier sent a couple of interceptions.
However, the quarterback stayed calm and did not panic, even though had reasons for doing so. He sent a touchdown pass to wide receiver Victor Cruz and led his team to victory without being affected by pressure.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Coughlin said of Manning’s ability of performing well under pressure:
“That’s a very, very strong suit of his.”
The head coach recalled his talk with the quarterback after he threw interception:
“He came right out, I walked up to him and said, ‘Ok, the next play is the most important play, forget that one.’  I think he’s already done that.  He’s already digested all of that and on to the next play and looks forward to it, actually looks forward
to being in that kind of situation, which is a strong point.”
Earlier, Cruz also appreciated Manning for performing well under pressure and said that the quarterback reads the game perfectly. He said of Manning:
“He understands what he has in front of him and he’s going to go out there and read each defence differently and make the right reads and make the right throws.”
