New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin ready for preseason game against New York Jets – NFL News
A loss to one of the worst teams of the last season, Jacksonville Jaguars, in their first preseason game of this season has certainly shocked the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants who are now going to face New York Jets, their city rivals, in
the next preseason game.
Such a start to the preseason was never anticipated from the Giants and although the credit of the victory goes to the improved Jaguars, the sloppiness the Giants displayed on the field was not hidden from anyone.
Against Jaguars, Giants were pretty good in the first half, but they lost the grip over the game in the second. They were leading 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and had an even better (10-point) lead at the end of the second quarter.
They had the lead at the end of the third quarter as well, but the Jaguars did well to prevent them from scoring any point and got a touchdown to reduce the deficit.
In the final quarter, Jaguars eventually managed to edge past, 32-31, the Giants. Based on that performance, Coughlin prepared a list of errors that the Giants had committed on the field.
According to the details present on the team’s website, there were a lot of things that the head coach had pointed out. Coughlin said of the errors:
“There probably could have been 12 or 14. The physical nature of the run and stop the run certainly is one right off the bat. The penalty issue, which was ridiculous. Obviously, ball security in the special teams area because that’s been an area… field position,
field position lectures, the special teams’ big plays and what it does for a team, which we’ve been lacking in the return game; all those things have been a part of our objectives all along.”
As the game against Jets nears, the players also realise that they have to put in more efforts to live up to the expectations. Coughlin said of the upcoming game:
“The test will be there come Saturday night. So it’s good that they’re concerned about that.”
After Jets, Giants are going to play a preseason game against Chicago Bears (on August 24) and New England Patriots (on August 29).
