New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin reflects on game against Washington Redskins – NFL News
After the victory against Washington Redskins that affirmed New York Giants lead in National Football Conference (NFC) East, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin reflected on the game, saying that there were many gains out of the game.
Talking to media a day after the win, Coughlin maintained that there were many flaws in his team’s performance, but admitted that the players played well to outclass the opponents during crucial plays.
Giants gave away a few penalties in the game and so did the Redskins. The defence began finding its rhythm in the second half, while performance from secondary was also brilliant on some drives.
The offence rescued the team towards the end of the game to seal the victory that would have been easily achieved if Giants had not made some errors earlier.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Coughlin said of the game:
“Probably the biggest thing was plus-two.  Four turnovers in the second half, we turned it over twice ourselves, but they were huge.  The fact that in the red zone they did not score, red or tight, and we were two for three in the green, and two for two
in the tight green.”
The head coach continued:
“I think the other thing is they had seven penalties and we had three.”
Giants were trailing by three points with less than two minutes left on the clock, but quarterback Eli Manning sent a 77-yard touchdown pass wide receiver Victor Cruz to get the go-ahead score that eventually became decisive for the defending champions.
Coughlin said:
“Our turnover late put the game in great jeopardy, no doubt.  To be able to come back like we did, with Eli (Manning) and Victor (Cruz), and to make the big play, was something.”
Meanwhile, Coughlin also highlighted that Giants gave away some crucial and big plays that should have been controlled. The head coach was of the view that the team must learn to counter such moves so as to perform better in the remaining games of the season.
Giants are currently leading NFC East and if they maintain their winning run for the next few weeks, they might easily qualify for the playoffs.
