New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin reflects on recent victory – NFL News
After defeating Cleveland Browns in Week 5 game, the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants are now tied with Philadelphia Eagles atop National Football Conference (NFC) East with 3-2 record.
Their recent victory, which came after the team underperformed earlier in the game, gave plenty of reasons for the fans to be delighted, but as far as head coach Tom Coughlin is concerned, there are some areas for improvement as well.
Talking to media on Monday, Coughlin shared his thoughts on the team’s performance against Browns. He appreciated the players for securing third victory of the season, but at the same time highlighted some areas that could have been much better.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Coughlin appreciated the team’s offence and defence, but said that performance of special teams needs some improvement.
The Giants head coach said:
“The other thing that took place that we always strive for and we work hard at, but doesn’t always come to the surface is our four-minute offense. We held the ball, finished the game with the ball in our hands.”
Coughlin added:
“Our running game was much better; much has been discussed, you don’t need me to comment on that. Statistically, we did very well with that. We had a number of big-play runs, which was very instrumental in our victory. I didn’t think our special teams
played as well as we’ve been playing. I think our return game and our cover game goes to show that.”
Giants have so far showed disciplined performance on offence during most of their games. However, another tough challenge, especially for the offence, is awaiting them next week.
Giants will take on San Francisco 49ers in Week 6 game and they are certainly not going to get easy time on the field.
In their last two games, 49ers have given away a total of three points only. They whitewashed New York Jets in Week 4, while conceded only a field goal against Buffalo Bills in their recent win.
Coughlin has not yet commented on 49ers and his team’s preparations against them. He has said that he will shed light on the subject later this week.
