New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin regrets penalties against Washington Redskins – NFL News
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has regretted that his team committed a lot of penalties during Week 13 game against the Washington Redskins, who defeated the defending Super Bowl champions with one-point margin.
Redskins’ score early in the final quarter gave them an advantage while the Giants, despite trying hard, could not overcome it. Also, Giants’ cause of a victory was hurt by a number of sloppy plays and penalties.
According to the details present on Giants’ website, Coughlin has regretted committing such a huge number of penalties that eventually took the game away from the Giants. He said:
“This is not real complicated. I don’t know what happened in the second half. They certainly didn’t come out and play. Penalties [and] sloppy football. It seemed like every time we had a special teams play, we had a penalty. Every time we had a kickoff return,
we had a penalty.”
The result of this game has threatened Giants’ lead in National Football Conference (NFC) East as they are now only one win ahead of Redskins and Dallas Cowboys.
In the final quarter, Redskins were able to score a touchdown because of heroics of their rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3), who found his favourite receiver Pierre Garcon perfectly to secure the advantage.
The rookie has been leading the Redskins pretty well and with this victory the Redskins have beaten their last season’s record. They finished the last season with five wins and 11 defeats, while they have already secured six wins in 12 games this season.
When asked to share his views on playing against RG3, Coughlin admitted that the rookie has been playing well right from the start of the season. The Giants head coach appreciated RG3’s speed and skills.
Coughlin also said that it was difficult to play against the Redskins because they come out with different formations that are not easy to understand. He said:
“There is no doubt that because of the different nature of the scheme and their concept, you don’t see it every week, so it does cause you a lot of time and energy and effort in trying to figure out what the formations tell you and what you can expect from
those formations.”
