New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin satisfied with team’s performance against Green Bay Packers
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has expressed satisfaction over the team’s performance during Week 12 game against the Green Bay Packers, who were defeated by the defending champions.
Coming off their bye week on the back of two straight defeats, Giants faced an astounding task of outclassing the Packers.
The Packers entered the game with a five-game winning streak, but faced a stiff competition from the Giants, who were amazing in every aspect of the game.
Coughlin appreciated the team’s overall performance and said, via Giants’ website:
“We played well tonight, really in all three phases, something we needed to do. We approached this game as if it was the first of a six-game season. I thought we had a good week of practice. I thought the guys were very committed, very serious.”
Before this victory, the Giants had jeopardised their position in National Football Conference (NFC) East. They have maintained lead in the division, thanks to dull performances from other competitors, but their position was in threat as they lost a couple
of straight games.
The bye week presented them the much-needed rest and when they stepped on the field again they did not show any signs of fatigue. Coughlin said:
“I thought they came back rested, both mentally and physically. I thought they were really into preparing and supporting each other and so on and so forth. We challenged our team to play.”
The Giants controlled the game in every quarter against the Packers. The offence scored in all but final quarter, while the defence only gave away a couple of scoring moves, a touchdown in the first quarter and a field goal in the second quarter.
The defence was equally impressive as it sacked Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers five times and made life on the field miserable from him. Coughlin said of the defence’s performance against Packers:
“To be able to have him [Rodgers] throw the ball on our timing rather than his, we were glad to see that.”
At present, Giants are 7-4 and leading NFC East with five more games left in the regular season.
