New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin shares views on recent loss – NFL News
After a heartbreaking loss against the Atlanta Falcons, the defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants are finding themselves in a bit of a trouble.
Their recent defeats and victories of Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins – the other National Football Conference (NFC) East teams contending for the playoffs – have brought all the three teams at a tie atop the division.
Giants had a clear advantage over the other teams a few weeks ago, but they just could not maintain the lead, something which is tormenting head coach Tom Coughlin.
However, Coughlin still believes that Giants can recover from the 0-34 loss the Falcons handed to them recently.
Giants have two more games to play in the season and if they win both of them, they will lead NFC East and earn a playoff berth.
According to the details present on Giants’ website, Coughlin said:
“Although some of my good friends last night mentioned that they didn’t think that destiny was in our hands, it is in our hands. If we win two games, we’re going to be in the playoffs. That’s what we have to focus on.”
In the 2011 playoffs, Giants handed a devastating loss to the Falcons and then later went on to win the Super Bowl. It was the first meeting between the two teams after that playoff game and the Falcons, who have a pretty remarkable season this year, were
not behind to take revenge.
Giants’ next two games are scheduled against pretty tough opponents. They will face the Baltimore Ravens next week and then take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17. The game against Ravens is particularly going to be worrisome, but Giants’ can capitalise
on the Ravens’ current form which is not at its best. The Eagles despite being placed at the bottom of NFC East can still threat the Giants.
Giants have been in such situations before and Coughlin believes that they can handle the pressure. He said:
“We can draw on the experience. We did a year ago, six times in a row. That’s kind of what we have to do here. If we’re going to have an opportunity to get into the playoffs at all, we’ve got to win the next two games. (It’s) sort of the way it was a year
ago.”
