New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin stresses on winning all remaining games – NFL News
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has said that his team must win all the remaining four games of the regular season if the defending Super Bowl champions want to qualify for the playoffs.
Still leading National Football Conference (NFC) East with seven wins, Giants need to win the remaining four games because failing to do so will allow other teams in the division to better their record.
This could pose threat to the Giants because they might face difficulty in qualifying for the postseason as a wildcard entrant because of poor record in the division.
Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys, who are just one win behind the Giants, have already defeated the defending champions one time each this season.
In the remaining four games, Giants will face the threatening New Orleans Saints in Week 14, Atlanta Falcons, who have already qualified for the playoffs, in Week 15, the aggressive Baltimore Ravens in Week 16, before hosting a divisional opponent, Philadelphia
Eagles in Week 17.
According to the details present on Giants’ website, Coughlin said of the remaining games:
“It’s a four-game season and we have to win, literally, every one of our games. That’s how I look at it.”
Giants’ recent defeat came against the Redskins in a game during which the defending champions committed a number of errors. Coughlin said of the team’s performance:
“We had nine penalties in the game, which made the game appear as if we were sloppy and careless.”
The Giants head coach has urged the players to pay attention to every detail and learn from the loss. He said:
“The lesson is pay attention, pay specific attention to the way in which games are lost in this league if you’re sloppy with your penalties, if you turn the ball over, you don’t give yourself much of a chance to win.”
Halfway through the 2011 season, the Giants struggled to perform well, but they managed to finish the season strongly that gave them NFC East title and an entry in the postseason. They continued the winning momentum in the playoffs and went on to win the
Super Bowl. The same performance is expected of them again.
