New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin wants to improve records by beating Washington Redskins
New York Giants are defending Super Bowl champions and currently leading National Football Conference (NFC) East, but they still have a lot of records to improve as they host Washington Redskins for Week 7 game this Sunday.
Giants have lost both their division games this season; they were defeated by Dallas Cowboys in the season opener, while Philadelphia Eagles edged past them in Week 4 game.
As Giants get ready to face their third divisional opponent this season, they are hoping to register a victory that will also help them retain their lead in NFC East.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said of the game:
“This game features a divisional game plus a conference game, so it is a game of double importance to us. We’re 0-2 in the division.”
Giants’ home record this season has been pretty satisfactory so far. They have won two out of their three home games this season.
They were defeated at home in the season opener by Cowboys, but they were able to outclass Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 and Cleveland Browns in Week 5.
Interestingly, Giants came from behind to secure victories in both home games. Against the Bucs, the defending champions were down 24-13 at halftime, but they managed to win the game.
The same happened against the Browns, who were leading (14-7) against Giants at the end of the first quarter, but the Giants still managed to win the game.
Coughlin is hoping that his team will be able to make a strong start and then secure the lead for the rest of the game, instead of going down early and playing under pressure for the rest of the game. He said:
“Quite frankly, starting fast is something we’ve been trying to do in each and every game that we’ve played. A few times, it has helped, but it hasn’t really helped at home.”
The head coach added:
“It hasn’t happened at home for whatever the reason might be and it’s not something that isn’t an initial goal, but it’s something we continue to focus on.”
