New York Giants hope to finish season strongly – NFL News
After a humiliating loss against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16, defending Super Bowl champions, New York Giants, are gearing up to face their National Football Conference (NFC) East opponents, Philadelphia Eagles, hoping to end the season on a positive
note.
The defending champions have very slim chances of qualifying for the playoffs because of their recent inconsistent performance that has taken away their lead in NFC East.
After playing 15 games in the regular season, the Giants are now 8-7, tied with the Dallas Cowboys at second place in the division, behind the Washington Redskins (9-6).
The Giants will face the Eagles this Sunday and if they manage a win, they will finish the regular season at 9-7. This will give them a slight chance of making the postseason, but the Giants’ chances will depend on their win along with the outcome of Cowboys-Redskins
game that will also be played this weekend.
If Giants had won their Week 16 game against the Ravens, they could have got a very strong chance of qualifying for the postseason, but that is not the case now and the team is apparently disappointed with the effort it has put up during the past few weeks.
Out of their last seven games, Giants have lost five, and although they have won two games against pretty tough opponents (Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints), their record does not suit them at present.
Giants are currently on a two-game losing streak, and both the offence and defence are struggling to perform well. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said of the team’s situation and their matchup against the Eagles, via Giants’ website:
“Whatever the scenarios represent, that’s fine. That should give us continued motivation, in terms of what can happen, and stranger things have happened, obviously.”
He added:
“I would like to be playing better football than we’re playing right now and it’s going to take that in order to win our last game of the year and even give ourselves that opportunity. I have our focus completely geared on our business and we’ll work as
hard as we can to rejuvenate our team, try to put ourselves in position where we can win a game and be 9-7.”
