New York Giants impressed with Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III – NFL News
Even before Sunday’s game against Washington Redskins, New York Giants had no doubts on the potential of Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3), but when the defending champions faced the rookie they could not help further appreciate his skills.
Although Redskins lost the game, RG3 was able to impress nearly everyone. The rookie gained 258 yards in the game while completing 20 of his 28 passes. He was sacked thrice for the loss of 26 yards and also threw one interception. However, the rookie also
got two touchdowns and retained his team into the competition right till the end of the game.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, who had earlier appreciated the rookie’s speed and rushing abilities, reaffirmed his stance about the rookie, saying that he was the fastest player on the field.
National Football Conference (NFC) East already has great quarterbacks in Eli Manning, Tony Romo and Michael Vick, and the addition of RG3 has given competition to all of them, despite the fact that RG3 is only in his first year.
Giants defensemen, who were playing directly against RG3 on the field, were even more appreciative of the rookie. Defensive end Justin Tuck said that it is very hard to prepare a plan against a player like RG3.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Tuck said after the win:
“I’m pretty mad at the football gods for putting him in the NFC East. To face that guy twice a year is going to be a headache.”
Tuck added:
“A guy like him, I don’t think there is anybody in the league just like him. If I was going to run that offence and they asked me to pick between Vick, Cam Newton, the RGIII, I’m probably taking that guy.”
Meanwhile, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP) also appreciated RG3’s skills, saying that the quarterback did well on the field. JPP also said that RG3 was much faster than he had expected. The defensive end said of RG3:
“He’s a pretty good quarterback. He can run the ball, he can throw the ball, and he’s faster than I thought he was. He’s very fast.”
