New York Giants in a mix of emotions after quarterbacks’ coach, Mike Sullivan’s departure – NFL News
Following the departure of quarterbacks’ coach, Mike Sullivan, the New York Giants have expressed a mixture of happy and sad emotions coupled with well wishes for Sullivan, who is also considered as one of the mentors of the Super Bowl XLVI Most Valuable
Player (MVP), Eli Manning.
Last week, Sullivan accepted a job offer from Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will now serve as the franchise’s offensive coordinator.
Sullivan started to coach quarterbacks in 2010. Before that, he was the coach for wide receivers.
After performing duties as the quarterbacks’ coach for the second season, which also became the last with the Giants, Sullivan efforts yielded fruitful results for the team.
The Giants went on to win the Super Bowl XLVI with Eli Manning getting his second Super Bowl ring and being rated as an elite quarterback.
Manning commented on Sullivan’s departure:
"I'm extremely excited for coach Sullivan, but I'm sad to see him go. We had a great relationship. He is a tremendous coach who pays attention to every little detail. He always had us well-prepared."
It is not only Manning, who is an advocate of Sullivan’s coaching abilities. In fact, Giants’ head coach, Tom Coughlin, has also testified for Sullivan.
While appreciating Sullivan’s decision making abilities, Coughlin said that he is a disciplined professional, who knows his work well.
Coughlin said:
“He will bring a lot to the Buccaneers program. He’s disciplined, he’s hard-working, he’s efficient, he’s smart, he makes good decisions.”
Coughlin too was sorry to let Sullivan go, but he acknowledged that such decisions are made in this business.
He was of the view that a person should make a decision keeping his best interest in mind and said that he had no hard feelings for Sullivan.
The head coach also wished Sullivan and his family best of luck for the future. He said:
“We’re sorry to lose him, but we do understand the nature of this business. We wish he and his wife Julie and his two daughters great success in their new assignment.”
Meanwhile, Sullivan has also thanked Giants organisation and all those affiliated with it and said that it was a memorable time that he spent with Giants.
