New York Giants in hopes of repeating last year’s heroics again – NFL News
The New York Giants have won four Super Bowl titles, but they have not been able to win two titles in a row. Not only that, they have only reached the playoffs one time in the subsequent year after winning the title. Sadly, they were unable to win that playoff game.
So, as per the trends, Giants have never won a playoff game the year after winning the Super Bowl title and if the Giants are going to follow the same trend, the next season might not serve them well.
Giants won the Super Bowl XLVI after defeating the New England Patriots and as they aim to take a shot at the Super XLVII, their main focus is to reach the playoffs and win a game in the postseason to end the curse.
By the looks of the things, Giants are well aware of the challenges and they are ready to put behind the last Super Bowl victory and focus on the next season, but not too soon.
Giants are expected to visit the White House to meet the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, and receive their prestigious Super Bowl rings.
However, their attention is towards their offseason workout programme and they are hoping not to get distracted by the euphoria of earning the ring and meeting the president.
Giants’ defensive end, Justin Tuck, said of the situation:
“I think this team – when it is time to work – we are going to come in here and be humbled and understand that last year isn’t going to have a lot to do with this year.  We are going to have to be our own team – just like last year was the 2011 team. This team is going to have to be the 2012 team.”
Giants won the last Super Bowl despite being rated as an underdog. The Super Bowl XLVI’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, is indeed happy to prove the team’s critics wrong, but he also wants to remove that underdog label.
He said:
"(We are) taking kind of the attitude that we still have something to prove.
Manning added:
“We have to be more consistent. We have to be better throughout the whole season and not have these streaks of good play and bad play."
Giants are going to start their season with a game against National Football Conference (NFC) East division rivals, Dallas Cowboys.
