New York Giants’ matriarch, Ann Mara, not going to miss the Super Bowl XLVI matchup – NFL News
New York Giants’ matriarch, Ann Mara, seems unbothered by her shoulder injury and said on Monday, January 30, 2012, that she would certainly travel to Indianapolis to watch her team playing in the Super Bowl XLVI matchup against the American Football Conference
(AFC) champions, New England Patriots.
In an interview, she said that she would take off for Indianapolis on Thursday.
"If I had to crawl to Indianapolis I'd be there. I have no intention of staying home. I'll be ready to go on the plane on Thursday."
Mara, 82, is the widow of former owner of New York Giants, Wellington Mara.
She broke her shoulder last week after falling down on a church’s waxed floors and is currently wearing a sling.
However, that will not prevent her from watching her team playing for the highest National Football League (NFL) honour.
She informed that she would have X-rays and undergo medical examination on Tuesday and hoped that nothing would stop her from flying.
Mara caught the attention of media after the National Football Conference (NFC) championship game between Giants and San Francisco 49ers.
Renowned Fox broadcaster, Terry Bradshaw, entered the Giants’ locker room to record the views of the winning team and stumbled across Mara while attempting to interview wide receiver, Victor Cruz.
Bradshaw was not received nicely by Mara, who exclaimed loudly and expressed her disappointment over the broadcaster’s game predictions in which New York Giants was never favourite.
However, she was seen smiling after a little ‘confrontation’ with Bradshaw, implying to rubbish the to-be controversies.
Much to Mara’s astonishment, the little encounter was broadcast live on TV – something she was not aware of, but that earned her the added respect of all Giants’ fans.
Meanwhile, Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin, who did not completely witness the conversation between Mara and Bradshaw, expects his players to be as passionate about the sport as Mara.
The coach said:
“I know that in many ways, many times Mrs. Mara’s attitude is reflective of the way that we would hope our team plays.”
Coughlin added that:
“She has great energy and tremendous interest and she is so interested in the team playing well and doing well.”
Mara is certainly among the fans who would be cheering for the Giants on the big day. Whether the team displays the same energy as the fans or disappoints them will be seen on Sunday, February 5 at the Lucas Oil Stadium.
