New York Giants’ offence discusses prospects against New England Patriots in the Super Bowl XLVI game
After the practice session on Thursday, January 26, 2012, members of New York Giants’ offensive unit (even those who missed the training) shed light on the team’s prospects against the American Football Conference (AFC) champions, New England Patriots, in
the Super Bowl XLVI matchup.
Giants, the National Football Conference (NFC) champions, will play against Patriots in Indianapolis on February 5.
These two sides also played a game against each other in the National Football League (NFL) regular season.
In that game, all the scoring moves came in the second half of the game and Giants scored a touchdown with 15 seconds left on the clock to get a decisive four-point advantage over Patriots.
However, it was the last time Patriots tasted defeat in the season. They went on to win 10 straight games after the encounter with Giants and are ready to take revenge now.
Giants’ wide receiver, Mario Manningham, who caught a touchdown pass to give his team a lead in the fourth quarter of the NFC championship game against San Francisco 49ers, thinks that the players should be patient if they want to penetrate into Patriots’
defence.
Manningham said:
“Just be patient. When the time comes, be patient. We love making big plays.”
He added:
“Sometimes we joke around and see who’s going to make the first big play. That’s how our receiving corps is. We don’t wait for somebody to make a play, we’re going to make it.”
Hakeem Nicks, who played 15 games in the regular season and missed the one against Patriots, is all set to face them now.
Although he missed Thursday’s training session, he was hopeful to be hundred percent fit on Friday.
He is of the view that his performance would depend on how he is used by the management.
Nicks commented:
“It could be to ours, but it all depends on how I’m getting used on offence and how things are getting taken advantage of.
He added later that:
“You never know. We’ve just got to see how they play me. We’ll see.”
Meanwhile, Victor Cruz has appreciated Nicks’ return.
Cruz thinks that Nicks’ presence in the team will make a huge difference as despite winning the last game against Patriots, his absence was badly felt.
On the other hand, tight end, Jake Ballard, is also looking optimistic. He is happy to have Cruz, Nicks and Manningham in perfect shape and believes that it will be difficult for Patriots’ defence to face all of these receivers.
The Giants are gearing up to face Patriots and give the fact that both the sides are well prepared, a thrilling encounter is certainly on the cards.
