New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride unable to solve team’s dilemma – NFL News
In their last two defeats, the New York Giants have scored a total of 14 points. Even more alarming is the fact that these points came only in one game while the defending champions were whitewashed in the other.
Giants’ failure on the offence is one of the main reasons behind the team’s slump this season. Still, offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride is unable to figure out the reason behind the offence’s downfall.
Although a lot revolves around the offence’s inability to maintain ball possession and get a playing drive going, the core reason for the failure is yet unknown.
When asked about the offence’s performance in the last two games, Gilbride said, via Giants’ website:
“If I could, I would’ve solved it and put it on it a long time ago. I think some of the things you just… We’re just not making plays that we’ve had some opportunities to make, and they’re there to be had.”
He added:
“It’s just, there’s no consistency. We’ve got a drive going last week, we put it in the end zone, we drove down to score. But, there are too many threes and outs, and there are too many failed opportunities to get the drive going, get the momentum started.”
Giants are currently placed at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) East, but their playoff hopes have almost ended. Even if they win their regular season finale which they are going to play against the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend, the
Giants will have to hope for a miracle to reach the postseason.
No one would have expected the Giants to be in such a situation a few weeks ago when they were leading the NFC East, and looking well on course of reaching the playoffs as the division leaders.
The team’s failure has highlighted a number of questions that must be answered. Admittedly, the Giants had a better squad last year that won the Super Bowl, but the quality of the talent was not below par either this season.
So at the end it might all come down on the officials who have failed to bring improvement in the team’s performance. Some of them might even get fired.
