New York Giants officially announce trading their draft pick for Cincinnati Bengals’ Keith Rivers
The New York Giants have officially announced trading their pick in the upcoming National Football League (NFL) drafts to Cincinnati Bengals and acquiring linebacker Keith Rivers in return.
The agreement between the two teams was http://www.senore.com/New-York-Giants-acquire-linebacker-Keith-Rivers-from-Cincinnati-Bengals-NFL-News-a145021as well, but an official word was not presented by any of the stakeholders then.
Giants, however, have not informed which pick they have traded.
Rivers was drafted by Bengals as the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft. He played three seasons with Bengals, but missed the last season owing to an injury and spent the season on reserve/non-football injury list.
Giants’ general manager, Jerry Reese, has expressed excitement over Rivers’ arrival and he thinks that the player will increase the level of competition in the team.
He said:
“We’re excited to have another talented player in the mix for our defensive staff to work with. We try to create competition at every position, and Keith will definitely bring some competition to our linebacker group.”
In the three seasons Rivers has played in his professional career, he registered a total of 186 tackles while playing 35 games.
Since he missed the last season, it could get slightly difficult for him to get back on the field and start performing at his best at once.
However, he will have an opportunity to work out during the offseason and preseason campaigns, which will certainly help regain his form.
Meanwhile, Giants’ head coach, Tom Coughlin, also thinks that the player has got an opportunity to make a fresh start. While appreciating the player’s talent, Coughlin said:
“This is an excellent opportunity for him to have a fresh start. Keith is versatile enough to play the outside on first and second down and he can play on third down because he runs well. And he’s fast enough to rush the passer.”
On the other hand, Rivers himself thinks that it will be a new beginning for him. He feels obliged to be playing for the defending Super Bowl champions. He said after the trade:
“You can’t ask for more than to be playing for the defending world champions and be in New York.”
The Giants are going to start their offseason programme from Monday, April 16, 2012.
