New York Giants re-sign Domenik Hixon as the player recovers from torn ACL – NFL News
Despite being virtually out of the field for around two seasons, New York Giants’ wide receiver, Domenik Hixon, who is still recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament, has been given a new contract by the team.
The new deal, terms of which are kept confidential, will prevent the player from hitting the free market.
In June 2010, Hixon hurt his right knee during the team’s practice session. It was later revealed that the player had a torn ACL, which forced him out of the complete season.
Last year when he had recovered from the injury, he joined the squad again and participated in the regular season games.
However, during just the second game, which was played against St. Louis Rams, Hixon caught a touchdown pass and landed awkwardly on the ground and again damaged his right knee.
He was eventually forced out of the rest of the season in which the Giants won the Super Bowl.
As per the latest reports, Hixon is expected to join the squad sometime in July this year and will be completely fit when the regular season starts.
He said of his recovery:
“We’re just fine-tuning things now. My goal when I get back is to be at full speed and show the training staff and everybody else I’m physically ready to play and ready for it for years to come.”
He added:
“I don’t want to limit myself in what I can do, especially because of injury.  It’s part of the game and I’ll work twice as hard not to get injured.”
Hixon started his professional National Football League (NFL) career in 2006 with Denver Broncos.
He was released by Broncos in 2007 and was selected by Giants.
He regularly played three seasons for the Giants before missing the 2010-11 season and could only play two games in the 2011-12 season.
After receiving the new contract, Hixon was pleased and delighted. He thanked Giants’ fans and organisation and vowed to give his best shot on his return to the side.
Hixon said:
“They could have cut me and let me be on my way and be done with me. But they didn’t do that.”
He added:
“They helped me out time and time again. I wanted to stay here and repay that.”
