New York Giants ready for New England Patriots’ wide out-turned-cornerback, Julian Edelman –NFL News
The New England Patriots have utilised Julian Edelman in various roles and they might surprise New York Giants by introducing the player in an entirely different unit during the Super Bowl XLVI matchup.
However, the latter is preparing for all the possibilities and does not seem alarmed.
Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin, and wide receiver, Mario Manningham, on Friday, January 27, 2012, spoke about playing against Edelman and shared different views.
However, none of them was hesitant to declare that the team would be ready for him.
Edelman was initially playing in Patriots’ offensive unit as wide receiver, but was later moved in the defensive unit at cornerback position.
While appreciating the Edelman’s ability to play on different positions, Coughlin said that the player might have felt troubled by the changing positions.
The coach pointed out the he had seen Edelman in different roles and said that he would not be surprised if the player played for either of the units in the Super Bowl game.
Coughlin remarked:
“He’s done it pretty much throughout his career with different players at different times.”
The coach added:
“This being the person that’s involved on both sides of the ball and special teams. Last week he was the third receiver, he played in the nickel back position and he ran the punts back. I don’t think he sold tickets, but he may have.”
Meanwhile, Manningham has adopted a slightly aggressive stance while commenting about facing Edelman.
It is highly expected that the Pats will keep him in the defensive unit, and Manningham wants Edelman to be exactly there.
Manningham thinks that since Edelman is not very experienced member to be playing for the defensive unit, it will be easier to exploit him and take advantage.
While hoping that Edelman starts as a cornerback in the Super Bowl game, he said:
"It's a different stage. This ain't regular season. That ain't your real position, so we're going to try to expose you. It's all or nothing now. That ain't your position, this is the Super Bowl and we want you to play that position."
While no confirmation can be give about Edelman’s starting position, the Giants are preparing to face him on both the units.
However, they are hoping that Edelman starts as a member of the defensive lineup, and think that it is a soft spot which can benefit them against Patriots.
The Super Bowl XLVI will be played in Indianapolis on February 5.
