New York Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks “anticipates playing” against Philadelphia Eagles – NFL News
New York Giants star wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who missed Week 3 game against Carolina Panthers, has expressed optimism about his return for Week 4 game against Philadelphia Eagles, saying he “anticipates playing” the game.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Nicks said:
“The body is feeling pretty good right about now. So get out there and practice this week and see how it goes.”
Nicks suffered a foot injury during the offseason and that injury is still causing some problems for the receiver.
Giants were fortunate to win the game against Panthers without Nicks, who was given rest. Giants had played their Week 2 game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, September 16, and their Week 3 game was scheduled for Thursday, September 20.
Since there was a gap just of four days, the team management decided against taking any risk and Nicks, who was named National Football Conference (NFC) Offensive Player of the Week for his good performance against the Bucs, was forced out.
The decision was made keeping in view that the receiver must be with the team for the rest of the season. Even Nicks has also acknowledged that there are many tough games ahead for which Giants will certainly need the player.
Nicks said about being left out of the team as a precautionary measure:
“It didn’t feel great, but it wasn’t too bad. I had to look at the situation and I knew we had another big game coming up with Philly, so when they told me, I just took it in stride, pull up the positive aspect about it. I’ll be ready to go for Philly.”
The receiver added:
“Coaches and the team trainers and the doctor decided to go ahead and sit this one out, so that’s what I had to do.”
After a disappointing loss in the season opener against Dallas Cowboys, the defending Super Bowl champions Giants have done well to recover and win their next two games.
In the NFC East, Giants are ranked behind Cowboys, who are leading the division, while Eagles stand at third position. All these teams have won two out of their three games so far. Nicks’ presence in future games is essential for the team to stay ahead in
competition with these teams.
