New York Giants running back Andre Brown back after concussion, Ahmad Bradshaw to still carry load
New York Giants running back Andre Brown has been cleared by the team’s medical staff after the player was not allowed to play Week 6 game against San Francisco 49ers owing to a concussion.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin confirmed that Brown has received clearance. However, his status is still questionable for Week 7 game against Washington Redskins.
Giants are expected to clear his status within the next couple of days. Initial reports regarding the player’s health are positive as he was able to take part in complete practice on Wednesday.
In this season, Brown has rushed for a total of 198 yards on 38 attempts while scoring three touchdowns. Brown has started only one game this season because Ahmad Bradshaw was not available.
Meanwhile, Coughlin has confirmed that even though Brown has recovered, Bradshaw, who did not practise on Wednesday, will continue to carry the load.
Bradshaw is expected to practise on Thursday. It is not unusual for him to practise just one day in a week before heading to any game. He did the same last year when he was seriously bothered by his foot injury.
Bradshaw seems to be in top form this season and the team has relied strongly on his running skills to get the offence going in the last couple of games.
In Week 5 win over Cleveland Browns, Bradshaw rushed for 200 yards on 30 attempts and scored a touchdown, while he rushed for 116 yards on 27 attempts and scored a touchdown in Week 6 win over 49ers.
When asked if the extra workload was the reason behind Bradshaw missing practice on Wednesday, Coughlin said:
“Well, he certainly wasn’t sitting around Sunday afternoon with his foot up. He definitely has played well, played hard, gotten the ball a number of times, and we’d like to think he can keep on doing that. I don’t want to go into that one-practice-a-week
business that we’ve had. So, I’m hoping that this is something that he is able to overcome, and we see the end of it.”
If cleared to play, Brown will serve as backup for Bradshaw against Redskins.
