New York Giants’ safety, Antrel Rolle, knew his team would win the Super Bowl XLVI – NFL News Update
New York Giants’ safety, Antrel Rolle, remained in the media projections throughout the recently concluded National Football League (NFL) season for his tall claims before every game, asserting that Giants would beat the opponents. Now after winning the
Super Bowl XLVI, he has once again reiterated that he knew Giants would win the NFL title.
In an interview on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, Rolle took a shot at media while recalling his experiences in the season.
He said of media:
"All they can do is write. No matter what, they have no say-so in what the outcome is going to be when the game is played. If you have a confident football team, that's what you need in this league.”
The Giants started the regular season by winning six of the first eight games, but could not maintain the effective run.
The team lost four straight games in a row with the defence performing at its worst.
However, Giants dramatically won three of their last four games to top the National Football Conference (NFC) East division and qualify for the playoffs where they were rated as underdogs.
In the first playoff game, Giants faced Atlanta Falcons and against all odds, the latter was restricted from scoring any touchdown or a field goal.
Giants won the game, 24-2, with Falcons’ two points coming in the form of safety when Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, was sacked in his own end zone.
New York’s next opponent was the defending Super Bowl champions, Green Bay Packers, who had so far only lost one game in the season.
Before that game, Rolle said he was not scared of the Packers and vowed to give them a tough time. He indeed did that to qualify for the NFC championship game against San Francisco 49ers.
49ers’ Vernon Davis commented on Giants reaching the championship final that he had hoped for Giants to reach the final.
After hearing the comment, Rolle spoke for his team and cautioned Davis that he should be very careful in expressing his desires.
When both the teams met, Giants eventually won the game.
Before the Super Bowl game against New England Patriots, Rolle said that he had boarded the plan because he knew he would win and that he would not have come to Indianapolis to play against Patriots if he did not expect a victory.
Now after winning the Super Bowl when Rolle was asked about his claims, he said:
“I don't think there's anything wrong with what we said.”
He said of his statement regarding boarding the plane before the Super Bowl game:
“That guy's got to keep his (butt) at home. That guy is not going to get on that plane. Our coaches and players understand that. And the media, they understand that also. But it's what sells.”
All the claims made by Rolle came true and now he has the right to be proud of himself.
