New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle happy on recording interceptions – NFL News
It had been some time since New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle had recorded an interception, but he ended the drought last Sunday when the defending champion dominated the San Francisco 49ers.
Rolle had the perfect moment to find his rhythm back as he intercepted 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, who otherwise is among the best quarterbacks as far as accuracy is concerned and hardly sends any interception.
However, Smith was seemingly helpless against the Giants, who were playing carrying a chip on their shoulder after being underrated in front of 49ers.
The quarterback sent a total of three interceptions, two of which went to Rolle’s credit.
Rolle spent the entire last postseason without any interception and struggled to provide one in this season as well. According to the details present on Giants website, he was happy to finally end the drought.
The safety said:
“It’s a good day because I was itching for one and I was due. And God willing, I was able to capture the opportunity when it presented itself. It’s a team effort. It’s a team effort. The guys in front got after him a little bit, and I was able to disguise
along with [safety] Stevie Brown, and I was fortunate enough to make those plays.”
One of Smith’s passes was intercepted by cornerback Prince Amukamara. The game was completely dominated by the Giants defence that allowed 49ers to score only one field goal.
Giants were a bit shaky towards the start of the season, but at present they are leading National Football Conference (NFC) East. Although the standings do not guarantee a playoff spot for the defending champion at present, it certainly is a good omen for
Giants, who are heading in the right direction.
Their slumping performance towards the start of the season had made many experts to favour 49ers over them, but they showed on the field their true class.
Admitting that it is not always possible to play the best football, Rolle said:
“We still are a great football unit. And more importantly, we trust in our coaches, we trust in our job, and we trust in each other as men.”
