New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle sings Coach Tom Coughlin’s praises – NFL News
New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle on Monday could not help singing praises of 65-year-old Coach Tom Coughlin, with whom the player has had rigid relations.
Rolle who joined the Giants last year after signing a five-year deal, has had plenty of reservations on Coughlin’s modus operandi. Soon after his joining, he even went on to say that he was not having fun at the franchise.
However, things have turned the other way round this season. After a dramatic comeback from the Giants to lead the National Football Conference East division and enter the playoffs, the players and coaches seem to have developed a good chemistry among them.
There was a time when Dallas Cowboys were in a strong position to lead the division, but their slump and the Giants’ rise brought the result in the latter’s favour.
The Giants won three of their last four games, giving a stern reply to the critics, who thought the Giants would not be able to comeback after losing four games in a row.
There were speculations earlier that Coughlin might lose his job if the Giants did not reach the postseason. However, those are rubbished now as the Giants prepare to host Atlanta Falcons next week.
Rolle admitted that he had developed a soft corner in his heart for the coach and said that he tried to play more efficiently to make sure Coughlin stayed at the franchise.
“I have many different reasons why I attack and play as hard as I do," Rolle said. "And I will be honest to say, one of them is Coach Coughlin. We didn't get off to the best of the best start. Not saying anything about him as a person because I have always
loved Coach Coughlin as a person. But we didn't agree with certain things."
“I’ve always loved him as a guy. He’s probably one of the better men I’ve ever been around...” He’s the boss man. We’re his soldiers,” he added.
Rolle informed that while he was having trouble at the franchise soon after joining it, he consulted with his friends and family, who advised him to play the game at his best and forget the rest.
In his first season, Rolle recorded 87 tackles and 0.5 sacks. This season, he has 96 tackles to his credit and an opportunity to play in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Coach Coughlin has also noticed improvement in Rolle’s performance and praised him for maintaining good record this season.
