New York Giants’ second straight win troubling for head coach Tom Coughlin – NFL News
New York Giants’ second defeat in a row has troubled head coach Tom Coughlin, who has expressed disappointment over the team’s effort against Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10 game.
The defending Super Bowl champions, though still leading National Football Conference (NFC) East, struggled to perform and it was their third straight game during which the team’s struggle on offence and defence was evident.
Giants won Week 8 game against Dallas Cowboys despite a poor show, but lost the next two games. Coughlin is of the view that his team practised well during the week leading up to this game, but just could not deliver.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Coughlin said:
“The way we played (was) very disappointing. I thought we did practice well this week; I thought we had good energy. I don’t think we necessarily played like that in the game.”
Coughlin added:
“I don’t have anything I can really say I was pleased with. It certainly starts with me. I’m not pleased with the way that I prepared them and certainly the way that they played.”
Meanwhile, it was another rough day for quarterback Eli Manning, whose struggle has now started to become a cause of concern for the offence.
Manning finished the game completing 29 of his 46 passes for 215 yards. He did not get any touchdown and sent two interceptions. The quarterback was also sacked four times and lost 26 yards.
Manning has led the team to a number of wins, but the decline in his form – that, too, at this crucial stage – is a worrisome sign. Giants are still on the course of securing a playoff berth, but they need consistency to achieve this feat. Coughlin is hopeful
that Manning will regain his form. He said:
“I still believe that Eli will bounce back and will play the way that he has played (before) at a championship level.”
Giants must gain consistency and stay in rhythm because even if they do qualify for the playoffs with such a form their life in the postseason will be difficult as other playoff contenders of the league are in top form.
