New York Giants seek first divisional win as RG3-led Washington Redskins visit – NFL Preview
New York Giants are leading National Football Conference (NFC) East after winning four of their six games, but they have not yet been able to defeat any divisional opponent this season.
The defending champions are hoping to get their first divisional victory as they host rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3)-led Washington Redskins for Week 7 game on Sunday, October 21, at MetLife Stadium.
Currently on a two-game winning streak, Giants enter this game on the back of a thundering 26-3 win over San Francisco 49ers.
Giants are confident of getting good results out of this game, but they are aware that after being defeated by Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, they are 0-2 in NFC East and the pressure of getting first division victory is certainly going to have
its say in the game.
Redskins have a good defence, but the offence is their main strength. Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who has time and again proven that he can play well under pressure, will need to be a bit assertive right from the start against Redskins.
If the Giants are able to make a strong start to the game, they can bring Redskins under pressure. However, Redskins can also give them a tough time as far as ball maintaining possession is concerned.
Manning said of Redskins:
“They’re a good team. They play good defence, they had a good scheme versus us last year, even prior to that. They do some things a little bit different, which have given us some trouble. So, we have to have a good plan for it, and go out there and execute
well and. hopefully, stay away from the turnovers and the mistakes and take advantage of the opportunities when they come up.”
It will be first game for RG3, the second overall pick of this year’s draft, against Giants.
The quarterback has supported his offence well, but he has not received the due support from the defence, which might hurt his prospects against Giants.
Despite a relatively weaker show from the defence, RG3 has been able to maintain an average of around 30 points per game this season and if he continues to play well and sensibly, and gets some support from the defence, the defending champions might face
some troubles on the field.
RG3 has some passing as well as rushing scores to his credit and that is where Giants need to pay a little extra attention. Even if they block RG3’s receivers, the rookie has the option of trusting his quick legs to cover some distance on the field. Although
it is risky, it has paid him off a number of times.
If Redskins win this game, they will get the top position in NFC East, but the position will be shared.
