New York Giants seek to move beyond Pittsburgh Steelers loss to win vs Cincinnati Bengals – NFL Preview
The New York Giants want to forget and forgive themselves for poor showing against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week and compensate the loss with a victory over the hosts Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown stadium this Sunday (Nov. 11).
If the reigning Super Bowl champions produce a display of skills as poorly as they did against the Steelers, a win will be really difficult if not impossible for them. They can hope that the Bengals who are struggling on their end in the season do not capitalise
on the opportunity then to make sure a win is theirs.
Their offence led by quarterback Eli Manning was a complete failure in the Steelers’ game while the team’s performance on other positions was also below the mark.
It is opportunity for the Giants to stage a win, which is a real possibility provided they play their natural game to consolidate their position further from current 6-3 lead in their division.
The game of Eli Manning will be crucial to their win because the defence is not likely to face any difficulty in front of struggling Bengals’ offence. Their star performer quarterback Andy Dalton has not been able to produce match-winning numbers on the
board.
Manning said:
"No one likes to lose or play poorly. We have to see where we can do better and above everything, you have to look at yourself first. I'm responsible for a lot of it. I'm where it starts. Our offense is not playing up to its potential."
He is joined by wide receiver Victor Cruz, who has rightly pointed out the need for his teammates to stay positive in the game. This factor was probably lacking in the Steelers’ game and they let things slip through their hands.
Cruz said:
"We're going to continue to stay positive and win some games at this time of year.”
The team also have to work out the weakness of succumbing to pressure in the latter part of a game. They should note that the Bengals are amongst a few teams who have the capability of recovering from earlier loss in the lead and coming very strongly in
third and fourth quarters.
Although they have to prove they are a far better team in the latter quarters this season, it was a hallmark of their performances last season. A majority of wins came in the last quarter for them.
This year, the Bengals have been struggling to make an impression on the field. After making a 3-1 start, they have lost four consecutive games, and are at the lowest ebb of their confidence. So the Giants should capitalise on the opportunity and make sure
they come out with a win.
