New York Giants still undecided about Hakeem Nicks’ participation against San Francisco 49ers – NFL News
New York Giants have still not decided whether they are going to include wide receiver Hakeem Nicks in the squad against San Francisco 49ers this Sunday.
Nicks, who is out nursing an injury, has only played two games this season. After suffering an injury in the offseason, he missed many training activities, but returned to the regular season. Unfortunately, he aggravated his injury in Week 2 game against
Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has been sidelined since then.
The Giants receiver participated in individual drills on Thursday and if he is able to practise with full squad on Friday, he will be good to go against 49ers.
However, that has been the story since the last few weeks and Nicks has not been able to display 100 percent fitness when it comes to making the final call about his selection.
So, if he is able to prove his fitness, Giants will be more than happy to include him in the squad. Otherwise, Nicks will have to watch fourth straight game off the field.
For now, he is just focusing on getting better without thinking much about his injuries. According to the details present on the team’s website, Nicks said:
“I’m not really trying to talk about injuries too much. My mentality is that I’m playing alright. We’ll see tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a deciding factor. Hopefully that answers all the questions I’ve been asking. Right now, I’m just going through the course
and stuff like that. It’s still a matter of me just getting back out there.”
Meanwhile, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has also expressed concerns over Nicks’ long absence, but he will not take any risk to further aggravate the injury by allowing the wide receiver to step on the field.
However, he is somewhat pleased to see that Nicks is keeping up with all important things. Coughlin said of Nicks:
“He’s in every meeting. He listens to every comment made about the other receivers, guys at his position. He studies the tape. He’s done all of those things. Has he repped every route? No.”
If Nicks returns to the side, it will be encouraging for the Giants offence as they need all the weapons to counter 49ers defence.
