New York Giants targeting playoff spot as they host Washington Redskins – NFL Week 15 Preview
New York Giants need to take revenge, but it is not the only goal they are pursuing as they host Washington Redskins at the MetLife Stadium in the week-15 game of the National Football League current season on Sunday.
Both the teams started their regular season by taking each other on. The Redskins comprehensively overcame the Giants 28-14 to signal their deadly intentions for the rest of the season. After the first victory, however, the Redskins
failed miserably and are now placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference West division with a record of 4-9.
Although the season did not kick off well for the Giants, they found their winning ways later. They managed to win a few games and lead the National Football Conference East division, but surrendered their supremacy after being
defeated in four straight games. Last week saw them securing a much-needed victory over Dallas Cowboys, thanks to a fourth-quarter comeback led by quarterback Eli Manning.
So, as they prepare to host the Redskins, they aim to settle the debt by taking revenge of the defeat earlier this season. Along with that, they are eyeing to secure a playoff spot, which can only be achieved if they win their
three remaining games in the regular season.
Giants have realised their mistake of underestimating the Redskins one time, but they are cautious enough not to repeat the mistake.
"We are in a playoff-type atmosphere from here on out. We have a big division game this week and we have to take it one game at a time and see what happens. We have to give Washington our best shot," Giants offensive lineman Kevin
Boothe said.
The Redskins are fighting for their reputation. Their fans are angry, and rightly so! After starting the season 4-3, they went down to lose six straight games and their chances of entering the playoffs are virtually eliminated.
Nevertheless, a victory is always welcomed.
Coach Mike Shanahan was satisfied with the team’s preparation and said that the players would give their best shot against the Giants.
Quarterback Rex Grossman, who has completed 202 passes of 348 attempts for 2,426 yards, wants to finish the season on a positive note by winning the rest of the three games. He thinks that the players are now playing to build their
identity.
“In this situation, we’re playing for each other,” he said. “We’re playing to establish an identity on offense, defence and special teams and trying to keep on getting better. And go out there and just play it and win.”
