New York Giants tender Dave Tollefson, Barry Cofield, Kevin Boss, Ahmad Bradshaw, Steve Smith and Mathias Kiwanuka
The New York Giants have tendered defensive end, Dave Tollefson, defensive tackle, Barry Cofield, tight end, Kevin Boss, and running back, Ahmad Bradshaw. Also tendered were wide receiver Steve Smith and defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka.
Tollefson, Cofield, Boss and Bradshaw all received second round tenders. That means that if another team wants to sign these free agents, they have to give up a pick in the second round of the National Football League (NFL) Draft.
At least that is how it is under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. It could change as early as Friday, since the deadline for the new Collective Bargaining Agreement is Thursday night.
28-year old, Tollefson has had 20 tackles, half of a sack, and two forced fumbles during the 2010 season. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2006 but did not play at all with them. In 2007, he came to the Giants but has yet to start in a game.
In 2007, Tollefson had only four tackles in six games. In 2008, he had 19 tackles, 3.5 sacks and one pass defended in 13 games. In 2009, he had 17 tackles and one sack in 15 games. 2010 wasn’t much better, with Tollefson recording 20 tackles, half of a sack,
three passes defended and two forced fumbles in 13 games.
26-year old Barry Cofield is a nose tackle from Northwestern University and has recorded 54 tackles, four sacks, four defended passes and one forced fumble. The six-foot-four, 305 pound behemoth has just finished the best season of his career.
Cofield was drafted by the New York Giants in 2006 and has started in 78 of the 79 games that he has played in, including all 16 in his rookie season. In that year, he had 44 tackles, 1.5 sacks and three passes defended.
The next year, he started in 15 of the 16 games that he played in, racking up 34 tackles, one sack and one pass defended.
He did better in 2008 with 43 tackles, three sacks, one pass defended and one sack. Cofield’s performance slipped a bit in 2009 with him recording 35 tackles, one sack and two passes defended but then picked right back up in 2010.
27-year old, Boss, has also had a great season, recording 35 receptions for 531 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 15.2 yards per reception.
24-year old, Bradshaw has accumulated 276 carries for 1,235 yards and eight touchdowns during the 2010 season, which can easily be called his best.
Aside from Tollefson, Cofield, Boss, and, Bradshaw, Smith and Kiwanuka were also tendered but it is still unknown what level they are at.
A source said that the Giants are currently in the process of tendering 14 players that would have become free agents in accordance to the 2010 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
