New York Giants thank fans after the successful NFL season and Super Bowl XLVI victory – NFL News
New York Giants returned home with the prestigious Lombardi Trophy and after receiving praises from all over on beating New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl XLVI at the Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, it was time for their own city to host and honour
the winners.
The team responded equally by displaying the same gesture during a parade on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, and everyone thanked the fans for their support throughout the National Football League (NFL) season.
No one could forget how the Giants went down early in the season and many observers predicted a disgraceful exit for the team from the season.
However, Giants went on to stun everyone and recovered from the slump to become the best team of the league and lift the trophy.
According to a rough estimate, around one million fans were present on the parade route to cheer every move the champions made.
Giants’ president and chief executive officer (CEO), John Mara, thanked the fans and said that the team has the most loyal fans in the world.
He said:
“But when you pull into this place and see all you fans out there, you realize one thing, there's no place like home.”
He added that:
“And we are very proud to call New Jersey our home. And we are even more proud of the fact that we have the greatest, most loyal fans in the world. Thank you so much for your support.”
Giants’ defensive end, Justin Tuck, also echoed the same sentiments and said that the triumph would have not been possible if the fans had not supported the team.
He commented that:
“We made it here by believing in each other. And obviously we wouldn't be here without your support. Why would you not love to play for these Giants, baby?”
On the other hand, mayor of the New York City, Michael Bloomberg, who had predicted the Super Bowl XLVI result in favour of Giants, underlined the importance of fans’ support in lifting the morale of the team.
While recalling different opinions that said Giants would not even reach the playoffs, the mayor said that fans still believed in the team, which eventually got succeeded.
He said:
“But we're here today because the Giants believed in each other, and you believed in them.”
Giants’ coach, Tom Coughlin, and the Super Bowl XLVI MVP, Eli Manning, also addressed the crowd and thanked the fans for their trust in the team.
