New York Giants thinking of ways to counter Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger – NFL News
Although Pittsburgh Steelers have an aggressive and physical defensive line, New York Giants will be worried more about countering quarterback Ben Roethlisberger when the two sides meet this Sunday for Week 9 game.
There are a couple of reasons for this. One, the Giants have a good offensive line with quarterback Eli Manning leading it. The offence can create playing drives and beat Steelers’ defensive line.
The other and the most important reason is that Big Ben is a force to reckon with. He is tall, strong and speedy, and can certainly hurt Giants’ current four-game winning streak.
Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell, whose defence will face a tough challenge against Steelers, has urged his players to prepare hard to counter Big Ben.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Perry said:
“...Big Ben is truly Big Ben. He has a nice little move that he makes on guys. When you try to wrap him, he tries to throw you off or he does throw you off. So we have to do a great job of wrap tackling. We have to do a great job of driving our feet when
we get a hold of him and can tackle him, but he’s been a problem for everybody in this league for a number of years and he’s an outstanding quarterback, as you well know.”
Since Giants do not play against Steelers every season, they have not studied Big Ben in detail. It is easier for Giants to prepare for Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who plays against them twice each season, but Giants have only been watching Big Ben without
studying his moves thoroughly.
This is the reason that they are utilising every possible opportunity to prepare against Big Ben. If Giants manage to defeat Steelers, it will be a great boost to their playoff hopes. They are determined to maintain the current edge over other teams in National
Football Conference (NFC) East.
On the other hand, if Steelers win they will stay alive in the playoff competition in American Football Conference (AFC) North, which is currently led by Baltimore Ravens (5-2), while Steelers (4-3) are at second spot.
