New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks hoping to return against New England Patriots – NFL News
New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who is yet to step on the field this preseason, has hoped to join his teammates for the preseason finale against New England Patriots on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. However, there is no official confirmation on
his participation in the game.
During one of the organised team activities (OTAs) earlier this offseason, Nicks broke his foot and was sidelined for the rest of the offseason. He could not take part in any other training activity after getting injured and missed the preseason games against
Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and Chicago Bears.
Althoguh Nicks had started practising with his teammates before the game against Bears, he still could not make it to the starting line-up.
Nicks has been hoping for his early recovery since receiving the injury. Initially, he had hoped to play all the preseason games, but that idea seemed a rather ambitious approach. Nevertheless the player has still shown quick recovery and now he seems upbeat
about the upcoming season.
Giants will play their first game of the regular season against the National Football Conference (NFC) East rivals Dallas Cowboys and Nicks wants to get some practice in the preseason before heading to the regular season.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Nicks said:
“I definitely can’t wait to go against some live action, knowing that somebody is going to be hitting me after I catch the ball. It will get my feet wet a little bit for this opening game. That’s what I look forward to, getting some live snaps and hopefully
I get a couple routine routes down with Eli (Manning).”
Meanwhile, Cowboys head coach Tom Coughlin has refrained from committing anything at the moment. Although he has not ruled out Nicks’ participation against Patriots, Coughlin has said that he would monitor the receiver’s performance during training and practice
session before making the final call. He said:
“We’ll see. I’m going to check. We were scheduled to go outside, as you know, and right at the time of practice we got the storm, so we came in here, and if he did well in here, then I would feel pretty good.”
