New York Giants’ wide receiver Rueben Randle energetic during rookie minicamp – NFL News
New York Giants’ wide receiver, Rueben Randle, who is expected to replace Mario Manningham in the upcoming National Football League (NFL) season, had an impressive first day of the team’s three-day rookie minicamp on Friday, May 11, 2012.
Many Giants’ officials including head coach, Tom Coughlin, and offensive coordinator, Kevin Gilbride, were pleased to see Randle catching throws and working hard to live up to the expectations.
Randle was initially projected to be a first-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, but Giants dropped the idea of drafting him in the first round and they luckily got an opportunity in the second round to select the player.
Giants needed a receiver to fill in the void that had been created by the departure of Manningham, who was also a member of last year’s Super Bowl winning squad.
Manningham left the Giants to become a free agent and later joined the San Francisco 49ers.
Randle is considered by many as an NFL-ready player and he could also get playing time in the upcoming season right from the first game. However, it is too soon to speculate if Giants are going to use him as starter.
When asked how Randle performed on first day of the minicamp, Coughlin said he was impressed with the player. The head coach also said that he expected all the players to be NFL-ready before the start of the next season.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Coughlin said:
“I was very impressed by Randle out on the field this morning. But they are all eager. And that is the good thing. And they are going to have to be ‘NFL ready.’”
Gilbride also shared somewhat similar comments when asked about Randle’s performance, but he maintained that there was still a lot to learn.
He said:
“He looks smooth and he’s obviously thinking, like they all are. So you don’t see maybe the explosiveness that we expect to see and know we’ll see down the road.”
He added:
“But in terms of going deep and just going down the field, he looked pretty good and did the things that we needed him to do, which was go catch the ball when we threw it to him.”
On the other hand, Randle was also satisfied to get positive remarks from the coaches and said that he would try his best to be ready to go from the day one.
