New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz receives applause from teammates – NFL News
With every game, Victor Cruz is becoming more and more valuable asset for New York Giants, and after a splendid performance against Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, he has once again come under limelight, forcing everyone to sing his praises.
Cruz caught six passes for 178 yards and scored a touchdown in a do-or-die game to support his teammates in leading the Giants to the playoffs after clinching the National Football Conference East title.
Giants Coach Tom Coughlin appreciated Cruz for his big plays and said that he has developed good chemistry with quarterback Eli Manning.
The coach is definitely right! Cruz is one of the most preferable receivers for Manning. This season, Cruz has caught 82 passes for franchise-high 1,536 yards. He has nine touchdowns to his credit.
Manning thinks that Victor, who is just playing in his second professional year, understands the game well and that’s why it is easier for him to make big plays.
“I think for Victor it’s just that he has a football sense – understanding when he’s open, when to sit in windows, when to break into the next window; we give him a lot of leeway on getting open and he’s earned the right to have those options to what he
can do because he senses what the coverage is, where the defenders are, and he just does a great job at getting open.”
In the game against the Cowboys, Cruz made two impressive plays. In the first quarter, he had a 74-yard touchdown, while in the final quarter, he caught a 44-yarder, which seemed impossible to pick.
According to Giants defensive end Justin Tuck, Manning and Cruz are Co-MVPS. He, like others, shares the same thought that Cruz-and-Manning combination is very vital for the Giants.
“It just seems like when we need a big play [Cruz] has stepped up and been that guy. I think those two are co-MVPs. Some of the plays he’s made this year have been tremendous,” he said.
The Giants have entered the playoffs as fourth seed from the NFC after winning nine games and losing seven in the regular season. They are going to host Atlanta Falcons next week.
