New York Islanders Travis Hamonic continues to Practice despite Lockout -NHL Update
There are many players throughout the National Hockey League (NHL) that have lost all hope during the current lockout and have already left to go and play overseas, but then there are those who continue to practice and wait with anticipation the regular
season, one of which is New York Rangers 22-year-old defenseman, Travis Hamonic.
Drafted as the 53rd overall back in round two of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders, Travis Hamonic, is one of those players that had to prove a point after being drafted and certainly worked his way up to the major league with
a lot of determination to now being a regular for the Islanders.
The lockout has been tough on the young defenseman, but he is still looking for brighter days when the regular season will be back on the cards and teams will prepare to go at it in a full fledged war of the best players in the world of hockey.
“I can’t sugar-coat what’s going on right now,” said Hamonic, his frustration from the ongoing NHL lockout hardly subsided, according to NYPost.com. “It’s a tough situation, normally being in town [at this time] for training camp at the NHL level. But you’ve
got to be optimistic that something is going to get done in the near future.”
Hamonic might not be able to play in the NHL during the lockout, but fortunately or not, he can still perform in the minor, American Hockey League (AHL), but that might not be the most favourable position in his eyes due to the waiver complexities that arise.
The youngster has played in two seasons so far with the Islanders and has 135 games along with 50 points (7 goals and 43 assists) under his belt with 176 minutes in penalty time.
This does not mean that Hamonic has never considered going abroad to play, but due to his entry-level contract, it binds him to stay in North America.
“I never really entertained the thoughts of going to Europe because I knew given the circumstances of my contract, I didn’t have a choice,” added Hamonic.
