New York Islanders’ centre PA Parenteau might have fractured leg-NHL News
Although no word of confirmation has come out from the management about the leg injury of New York Islanders’ centre, PA Parenteau, there are fears that the player might have had fractured his leg in the game against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday, April
05, 2012.
Parenteau’s injury came in the second period of the game and he did not return to play rest of it, after being helped by the team’s officials to the dressing room.
The player was injured when Jets’ defenseman, Mark Stuart, dove at him and his leg came under weight of the player. Stuart was trying to break up the play, when Parenteau came alone in front of Jets’ netminder, Chris Mason.
He was slid through to the right corner with full force and could not manage to get on his feet until the team’s officials’ help him to be on the sidelines.
Since there is no further explanation around his injury, especially any word about the fears of him fracturing his leg, the entire situation has become more complicated. Given the player’s inability to get up immediately after the incident, it looks all
too serious for him.
Furthermore, he was said to be unable to put weight on his leg, which feeds the fear of the injury being a serious one. The trainers and medical staff who helped him to the dressing room apparently did not look much hopeful, either.
Parenteau was reported to be scheduled for scans later, but so far the team and the player’s agent have not said anything about the results of the scans.
In spite of the uncertainty around the status of the injury, the incident does not come as a good development for the player and team.
This also makes certain that he will be rejoining the team in probably next regular season because the 2011-2012 NHL season has almost ended.
Islanders, with only a couple of games to go, are almost done with the current season’s run. Since they are already confirmed to be out of the playoff race, it is all over for them until next season.
It also leaves the team to be less affected with the centre’s injury, and the player has a plenty of time to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation.
It is difficult to speculate the amount of time that Parenteau will need for his recovery and fitness, as if it turns out to be a fractured leg the player will definitely need a longer period of time for the recovery.
The player is into last year of his stay with Islanders. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer provided Islanders do not offer him new deal.
Before the latest injury scare, Parenteau managed 18 goals and the record 67 points this season.
