New York Islanders defeat the Florida Panthers 4-3 after shoot-out – NHL Recap
The New York Islanders beat the Florida Panthers 4-3 after an exciting shoot-out at the Bank Atlantic Centre on Saturday. Both teams are in the 13th and 14th position in the National Hockey League Eastern Conference and this game was
more of a personal battle between the two, rather than for the play-offs.
The game started off with both teams making a decent start which saw them coming up with a few shots on goal, but neither was able to score. The period ended with the score level on 0-0. In the second period, the Islanders scored early, but the Panthers
responded with some strong plays that saw them scoring twice to take the lead. The Islanders scored twice during the course of the final period to get into the lead, but the Panthers also managed to score once to level the game.
The game went into over-time, but no goals were scored, forcing a shoot-out. The Islanders emerged as the winners of the game after shoot-out. Frans Nielsen was named the Star of the Game, as he came up with an important assist during the match.
A slow start to the game was observed, as both teams were reluctant to go on the attack. They waited for spaces to develop and then went forward to put pressure on the goal. However, no goals were scored, as the period ended 0-0. During the course of the
first period, the Panthers made 8 shots on goal, while the Islanders managed 6 attempts.
The second period was pretty much the same in terms of shots on goal, but the Islanders managed to score in the 6th minute through Michael Grabner from a flick-shot to get into the lead. The Panthers were able to come across some decent chances
and scored in the 12th minute through Evgeny Dadonov from a simple tip-in shot to level the score.
The Panthers showed that they were very strong on the offence with another goal in the 18th minute, scored by Dadonov once again. The period ended with the Panthers leading 2-1, as they made 8 shots, while the Islanders managed 10.
The Islanders were strong on the attack once again in the third period, as they scored through Pierre Parenteau in the 8th minute. The Islanders’ offence was very strong and well organized to help put them in the lead with a goal scored by Michael
Haley in the 10th minute.
The Panthers were able to draw level with a goal in the 14th minute which was scored by Stephen Weiss. The regulation time ended with the score level on 3-3. The game went into over-time, but no goals were scored. It was the Islanders who managed
to win the game 4-3 after the shoot-out.
