New York Islanders finally win; 5-3 against the Ottawa Senators
Another one of the entertaining matches of Saturday was the New York Islanders playing host to the Ottawa Senators at the Nassau Coliseum. This was the 786th game of the season with New York Islanders desperate for a win as they are slipping down
in the league table.
The first period of the match saw six goals scored in the opening 20 minutes of the match. The match was expected to be a high scoring match but beside the productive first period there wasn’t much. The second period ended goalless with the Islanders scoring
twice in the final period to win the match 5-3 in the end. Rob Schremp, centre of the New York Islanders was the star selection of the match as he scored two goals with the later which put them in the lead.
Both teams exploded right from the word go shooting from long range and working their way past the defence to fire shots. Goals were surely going to be scored it was just a matter of time. New York Islanders managed to score in the 5th minute
with the goal scored by Matt Moulson from a simple tip in shot.
Ottawa Senators silenced the celebrating home fans scoring with the very first play after restart. The goal was scored by Chris Nell from a superb shot. Both teams continued to attack and there were plenty of chances to score. New York Islanders got into
the lead once again as they scored through Michael Grabner in the 10th minute. However, this time again the lead didn’t last long as Ottawa Senators scored once again through Mike Fisher to level the scores.
The period moved on swiftly when in the 18th minute Ottawa Senators stunned the home crowd by taking the lead. The goal was scored by Alex Kovalev from a decent strike. However, this time it was Islanders who scored immediately after restart to
level the scores. The goal was scored by Rob Schremp from a brilliant tip in shot.
The period ended with the scored level on 3-3 with Ottawa Senators making 6 goal attempts while New York Islanders made 13 goal attempts.
The second period saw the team continuing from where they left off in the first period. Regular shots on goal were seen and some brilliant pieces of play were constructed by both teams. No goals were seen in the early stages of the period.
The period saw both teams strong on the offence once again but this time they were strong on the defence too. During the course of the period New York Islanders made 12 goal attempts while Ottawa Senators made 8 goal attempts but unfortunately no goals were
scored. The period ended with the scores still level on 3-3.
New York Islanders set the home crowd wild as they scored in the 2nd minute of the final period to get into the lead with the goal scored by Rob Shremp from another brilliant tip in shot. Both teams made numerous goal attempts till the very end
of the game but it was New York Islanders who scored through Frans Nielson in the final minute to seal the match.
During the course of the final period Ottawa Senators made 9 goal attempts while New York Islanders made 13 goal attempts and won the match 6-2.
