New York Islanders’ first round pick Griffin Reinhart appointed as the captain of Edmonton Oil Kings
Griffin Reinhart, who was selected by New York Islanders in the first round of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Draft at 4th overall, has been appointed as the captain of Edmonton Oil Kings.
Oil Kings play in the Western Hockey League (WHL) and Reinhart has been playing for them for last two full seasons and also played two games of the 2009-2010.
The defenseman scored many points and showed great performances for the Oil Kings which helped him in getting drafted among top 5 and also in decision of appointment of him as captain. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the team.
The 18-year-old was very happy on becoming captain as he talked to the team’s website. He is ready to take the responsibility and lead his team from the front as he said,
"I'm really happy to have the job. I've got to take a bigger leadership role and be more vocal and help the younger guys coming into the league. I've got to lead by example and also communicate with them. I think I'm ready to take a big step up."
Team’s alternate captain Travis Ewanyk was also very satisfied on the appointment of Reinhart as captain. The prospect of Edmonton Oilers said,
"He really leads by example out there. He's not going to be coming in yelling at guys. You don’t need that, especially when you have a lot of strong voices in there. He proved last year what kind of special player he is."
The Western Vancouver, British Columbia’s resident will go into his fourth year at the organisation as he made his debut in the 2009-2010 season. He had started his hockey career with Vancouver North West Giants in 2008-2009 in the British Columbia Major
Midget League (BCMML) before making his WHL debut and 35 points in 38 games for the team in two years.
The 6-foot-4, 207 pounder blue liner played only two games in the first season for Oil Kings and was unable to score any point. But in last two seasons he has been scoring many points as he has scored 18 goals and 43 assists for total of 61 points in 103
games.
