New York Islanders’ forward P.A. Parenteau expects raise in pay in prospective fresh deal -NHL News
New York Islanders’ right wing, P.A. Parenteau, is expecting a significant raise in his payout under the prospective new deal from the team.
A formal round of negotiations is set to start between the player’s agent, Allan Walsh, and Islanders’ managers in near future, which is expected to set forth all terms and conditions of the new contract.
Under his previous deal, Parenteau is set to earn $1.25 million this year, before becoming an unrestricted free agent from July 1st (2012), in case talks for the potential new contract fail.
According to the agent, the player is expected to get a significant raise in his pay from the level of $1.25 million. He did not project an exact number.
Walsh confirmed the expected start of the negotiations with the managers in near future through a text message, hinting at the possibility of a successful breakthrough in the process.
The agent said:
"Now that the New York Islanders season is over, we are looking forward to start negotiations with the club."
He was referring to Islanders’ unsuccessful run of 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) season as they were unable to make it to the playoffs this year.
The team is now planning to sort out its pending matters such as re-signing of the players’ deals in the offseason. The winger’s deal comes first on the discussion table.
He has repeatedly expressed his desire of staying with Islanders for more seasons to come and had tabled the deal extension case in front of the managers before end of the trade deadline on February 27, 2012.
It was not taken for discussion then since the team seemed to be preoccupied with the performance with the playoff agenda on their mind, which looked to be a possibility then.
Now they tend to focus the issue once again and as confirmed by the agent, a process of negotiations is set to start in near future.
The agent has again reiterated that the player remains committed to Islanders and will like to return to the squad on fresh terms.
According to the agent:
“PA has made it clear he wants to remain with the Islanders. He has assumed a leadership role with the club.”
He added:
“He's proven to be a great fit on one of the top scoring lines in the league and has great affinity for the organization that gave him the opportunity to play regularly in the NHL.”
Parenteau suffered an ankle injury during the closing period of the regular season, forcing him to miss the last game. However, the injury is described not to be of a serious nature.
