New York Islanders owner Charles Wang confirms GM and head to remain next season -NHL Update
New York Islanders general manager, Garth Snow, and head coach, Jack Capuano, can finally breathe a sigh of relief as team owner, Charles Wang, confirmed on Sunday, April 1, 2012, that both will remain in the same position heading into the 2012-2013 National
Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
The confirmation came after much rumoured shifting in the team’s management after nearing an end to an extremely disappointing season, which is definitely not the first under the two high-ups.
It was during an interview with the MSG Network that Wang expressed full confidence in his general manager along with head coach as well, confirming their stay for the upcoming season as well.
Wang’s decision certainly comes as a surprise to many since the team has missed the NHL playoffs for the fifth straight time and Jack Capuano, who joined the club in November of 2010 replacing Scott Gordon, has not made a significant difference in terms
of their standing.
Many have come to the conclusion that Capuano has asked for another season in order to full prove his coaching abilities and for Wang, it will be the deciding one whether to keep him or let him go. While Capuano’s job may be on the line, it is not expected
that Wang will let go on Garth Snow anytime soon unless conditions force him to.
The New York Islanders are currently number 14th in the Eastern Conference with 77 points, just four above the struggling 15th place club, Montreal Canadiens. Ending off a season in the bottom spots is never good but recently, New York
has shown some improvement.
Islanders went as far to winning five of six matchups in the month of March alone, which definitely shows some potential but for the team that is already ousted from the playoffs, it really does not make a difference now.
New York Islanders have a long offseason to improve and learn from their mistakes and if the next regular season does not yield the results Charles Wang desires, either Smith or Capuano can be saying goodbye to their jobs.
It will be exciting to see whether New York Islanders become one of the top teams next year around or not.
