New York Islanders say assistant coaches Scott Allen, Dean Chynoweth will not return-NHL News
The New York Islanders looked to have been over with their yet another poor National Hockey League (NHL) regular season run and started their postseason cleansing drive well within norms of the sport.
In case of all sports, the management of a team after coming out of a dismal season is straight to overhauling of the side with hiring firing at different positions to a certain extent. It is the same with the American-Canadian ice hockey professional league.
Following their fifth consecutive failed attempt of making it to the playoffs, Islanders as a first step towards the so called rebuilding of the team, have parted ways with their two assistant coaches.
According to the management, assistant coaches, Scott Allen and Dean Chynoweth, will not be returning to the side next season.
The move and many other steps are expected as part of the rebuilding agenda after Islanders finished 2011-2012 at the second last place in the 15-team Eastern Conference.
Scott Allen joined the Islanders in July 2009, during the tenure of former head coach, Scott Gordon.
Lately, he has been working under Jack Capuano, who took over the coaching position from Gordon on an interim arrangement. Gordon was fired by the management on November 15, 2010, following another dismal season of the team.
Capuano was given the permanent coaching position in April 2011 and has seen the team through another poor spell of their performance.
Other assistant coach, Dean Chynoweth, had been drafted as a first-round player by the team in 1987 and he later joined them in the coaching role.
Now, both of them have been informed that they will not be returning to work under Capuano next season.
The removal of the assistant coaches has not surprised commentators as it was seen very much in the making given that Islanders failed another opportunity of progressing through in the league.
With the scorecard of 34-17-11, the Islanders finished at the bottom of the Atlantic Division.
Meanwhile, the team is expected to carry on with its reshuffling drive, making more officials redundant as well as players as the team prepares for the next season.
Some commentators believe that further hiring-firing is inevitable despite disliking of all members of the team, who do not foresee any major improvement in the form coming from the excessive overhauling of the squad.
This can be true due to the fact that Islanders have been doing the exercise for many consecutive seasons in the past without any avail.
