New York Islanders sign 4th pick defenseman Griffin Reinhart for three years in an entry level contract
Griffin Reinhart, the Canadian defenseman who was picked 4th overall in the first round NHL draft by New York Islanders, has signed an entry-level deal for three years with the same team had picked it. Financial terms of the deal are not yet disclosed
by anyone.
18-year-old upcoming player was very happy to get the deal done and become a part of New York Islanders as he tweeted on his official twitter account, twitter.com/griffinreinhart.
He thanked everybody for congratulating him and wrote that he is proud to be a part of Uniondale, New York based side as he tweeted,
“Thank you to everyone for the congratulations! Proud to be a part of the https://twitter.com/NYIslanders organization”.
The 6-foot-4, 207 pounder, comes from a hockey family as his father, Paul Reinhart was also an NHL professional who played for Calgary Flames, Atlanta Flames and Vancouver Canucks in 11 seasons.
His elder brother, Max Reinhart plays for Abbotsford Heat in American Hockey League, is also an ice hockey professional. But Griffin hailed his father’s contribution in making him what he is today and told Paul helped him a lot as he said,
"He's been really big for me. Obviously he's gone through it all, and with the teaching aspect, he's been able to help with a lot of my game -- help me with my weaknesses but give me some praise as well."
Born in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Reinhart started his hockey career with Vancouver North West Giants in British Columbia Hockey Major Midget League (BCMML) in 2008 when he was just 14.
After spending two years there, he joined Edmonton Oil Kings in Western Hockey League (WHL) 2009-2010 and has two successful seasons with them as he scored six goals, 19 assists, 25 total points in 45 games he played in the 2010-2011 season and scored 12
goals, 24 assists, 36 total points in 58 games played in the 2011-2012 season, before he attended development camp with Islanders in June this year.
Two months back when he was attending development camp, he had said that it was a great experience with guys which are experienced than him. He had told that it is great to meet new players, new people and it is great to build new relationships as he had
said,
"It's definitely a different experience, with the guys being a lot older and a lot bigger. You go through the same kind of things in your first bantam camp; you have to meet a whole bunch of new guys”.
