New York Islanders sinks Boston Bruins by a double margin 4-2 – NHL Updates
Disappointingly for New York Islanders, the season is near its end as they’ve started winning some of their biggest games yet, defeating Boston Bruins on Friday night at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, by a double, 4-2, proving
that it is not a farm league team compared to New York Rangers, as criticised by many people.
It all started in mid December as Islanders finally ended its losing streak of 20 out of 21 games, beating Anaheim Ducks and continuing to play well since then. Had the season started at that time, it would have been one of the major teams at the moment.
Islanders just ended a five-game home stand, with a record of 4-1 and next start a five-game road trip from Saturday against New Jersey Devils.
If they can keep this up and maybe win a good majority of their remaining 13 games, they might have a slight chance of making it to the playoffs this season, again repeating, a slight chance.
They’ve won 12 of their previous 17 games following the All-Star Game break.
"They're all big games", New York’s coach, Jack Capuano, said. "This group believes in each other. Confidence and belief in one another, for sure, we've got a young group in there. They're focused; their attention to detail is excellent. When you do those
things, you have a chance to win hockey games."
Boston’s been slacking in its past few matchups against some pretty small teams compared to them, just coming out fresh off  a loss against Buffalo, it is on a four game losing streak now, a first one all season long.
Bruins is standing third under Washington, who are capitalising every moment, winning seven games in a row now.
Nathan Horton took an early lead for Boston, late in the first, insured by Zdeno Chara with his 12th of the season, a little over midway through the second during a power-play.
Chara felt the booing of the crowd every time he took the puck, but there were some Boston fans in the 12,119 crowd who cheered him on.
Islanders had a first big goal of the night, during an added man advantage.
Matt Moulson shot it through Tim Thomas from the right faceoff circle with two seconds remaining, enlightening the mood all around him.
Michael Grabner tied it all up within two minutes of the final, following a double goal lead from Jack Hillen and P.A. Parenteau on an empty net with 10 seconds remaining to win it 4-2 for Islanders.
It was a big confidence boosting win for New York.
"(It's) so much more fun, winning", Al Montoya said, who made 26 saves for Islanders.
Both teams will meet up once again to finalise the season in their third last game in April.
Until then, New York certainly has some challenges to face ahead of them but at this pace, it might just get what it has always been hoping for.
