New York Islanders win 4-1 against the Minnesota Wild
One of the crucial games when it comes to the play-off cut was the New York Islanders playing host to the Minnesota Wild at the Nassau Coliseum.
The Wild were looking to avoid their second consecutive defeat while the Islanders were looking to close the 14 points gap between them and the final play-off position.
The Islanders were on top of their game as they scored two goals in each of the first periods to lead by four goals as the final period began. The Wild managed to come up with a decent performance in the final period which saw them scoring once but it was
the Islanders who won the game 4-1 in the end. Blake Comeau, winger of the Islanders was named the star of the game as he scored two goals during the game.
The Wild made a decent start to the game which saw them attacking and coming across some easy chances that they spilled. The Islanders with the backing of the home crowd were also able to come up with some decent plays.
The home team with the momentum and confidence were able to score in the 11th minute through Blake Comeau from a decent flick shot. The Islanders emerged as stronger of the two teams after the goal as the fired shots on goal regularly. On the
other hand, the Wild also notched up a few shots.
The Islanders managed to grab another goal in the 19th minute scored by Kyle Oposo from a brilliant backhand shot. The period ended with the Islanders leading 2-0 at the end of the period. During the course of 20 minutes of play, the Wild made
10 goal attempts while the Islanders made 17 goal attempts.
The second period started off with the Islanders on top of their game and they stunned the Wild scoring in the very first minute. The goal was scored by Blake Comeau once again who bagged his second for the night from a superb backhand drive shot.
Both teams started to come up with some brilliant plays that saw them coming across numerous scoring chances. The Islanders managed to score once again in the 17th minute when Andrew McDonald scored from a powerful strike during power play.
The period ended with no further goals with the Islanders leading 4-0. During the period, the Islanders made 16 goal attempts while the Wild made 10 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both the teams coming out with the same mentality.
However, the Islanders didn’t go too much on the attacks as the Wild desperately tried to score.
John Madden successfully scored through a simple tip in shot in the 12th minute. The goal was no more than consolation goal as the game ended with the Islanders winning the game 4-1 in the end.
During the course of the final 20 minutes of play, the Wild made 14 goal attempts while the Islanders made 8 goal attempts.
