New York Islanders wins 5-2 against the St. Louis Blues - NHL Weekend Roundup
The first game of Saturday was played at the Nassau Coliseum as the home team, New York Islanders, played host to the St. Louis Blues.
The game was important for both teams as a win would give them important points in the hopes of making it into the play-off cut.
Islanders came up with a brilliant performance during the first two periods which saw them leading by 3-0 as the final period began.
Blues were all over the place and couldn’t find the back of the net.
The final period turned out to be a goals' fiesta as four goals were scored during the period but it was the Islanders who won the game by 5-2 in the end.
Andrew McDonald of the Islanders was named the star of the game as he scored two crucial goals.
Both the teams started the period on the slower side. Though they came up with some decent plays but weren’t able to find the back of the net.
However, the Islanders started to get stronger with the passage of time and finally scored in the 10th minute through John Tavares from a brilliant backhand shot to get into the lead.
Both teams started to pile up shots and a goal was certainly going to be scored. It took some time but The Islanders finally scored in the final minute of the period to double their lead. The goal was scored by PA Parenteau from a brilliant tip in shot.
There were a few more shots on goal but the period ended with the Islanders still leading 2-0. During the course of the period, the Islanders made 9 shots on goal while the Blues ended the period with 6 shots on goal.
The second period saw the Blues making a decent start and creating chances. They had scoring chances which could have easily found the back of the net but they couldn’t score.
The Islanders got in with a few shots and scored in the 13th minute through Andrew McDonald from a powerful strike to further strengthen their lead.
The period saw the Blues trying hard to score but they weren’t successful in doing so as the period ended with the Islanders leading 3-0. During the period, the Islanders made 4 shots on goal while the Blues made 8 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play were really interesting as the Blues scored first in the fourth minute through Andy McDonald. But the Islanders responded back with Andrew McDonald scoring in the seventh minute.
The Blues scored once again in the 11th minute through Chris Stewart to keep chances of a comeback alive.
However, Michael Grabner sealed the win for the Islanders as he scored in the 13th minute.
The period and the game ended with the Islanders winning 5-2 in the end. During the course of the final period both teams made 9 goal attempts each.
