New York Islanders wins 9-3 against the Pittsburgh Penguins
One of the games of Friday which had an unexpected outcome was hosted by the New York Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum as they were up against the Pittsburgh Penguins. There were a decent amount of people present to witness the game.
The New York Islanders totally dominated the game and with the strong offensively play totally demolished the Pittsburgh Penguins defence. They four goals during the course of the first period and carried the momentum into the next periods. The result at
the end was a surprising 9-3 win for the Penguins. John Tavares, centre of the Islanders was named the player of the game with his three assists and a goal.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw them coming up with attacks every now and then. The passing and defence was also very strong at the start and with the passage of time things got even better.
However, Islanders emerged very strong offensively and took the lead with a goal in the 9th minute. The goal was scored by Travis Hamonic from powerful long range shot. The period saw the Islanders totally dominated the proceedings minutes after
the goal. With the superb passing and some excellent shooting, the Islanders doubled their lead with another goal scored by Jesse Joensuu from a well placed flick shot.
Penguins started to come up with plays to cut the lead but unfortunately it was Islanders who scored once again in the 18th minute through PA Parenteau from a simple tip in shot to further extend their lead. The dominating and productive performance
of the Islanders saw them scoring once again in the final minute through Michael Grabner.
The period ended with no further goals with Islanders making a few more goal attempts. Islanders led 4-0 going into the break as they made 16 goal attempts in the period while Penguins made 10 goal attempts.
Penguins were definitely stronger of the two teams at the start of the second period but the weak defence allowed too many goals. The Islanders were high on confidence and coupled with the fact that the Penguins had a weak backline, they scored twice in
the 4th minute. The first of the two goals was scored by John Tavares from a simple tip in shot while the second was scored by Michael Haley.
Penguins put quite a bit hard work and improved on the offence which resulted in them scoring through Kris Letang during power play in the 7th minute. A few minutes later in the 10th minute, Penguins used the power play very well once
again scoring through Jordan Staal from a brilliant long range shot.
However, it was Islanders night and they scored once again in the 14th minute through Matt Moulson from a decent tip in shot. The Islanders scored four goals once again in the period with Matt Moulson scoring once again to strike the final blow.
The period ended with New York Islanders maintaining a comfortable 8-2 lead.
The final period started off slowly for both teams but they started to open up and attack as they period moved on. Penguins bagged their third goal also during power play in the 8th minute through Tyler Kennedy’s flick shot.
However, Islanders wrapped up the game as Michael Grabner scored his second for the night in the 18th minute. There weren’t as many shots on goal as in the previous period with Islanders making 8 goal attempts and Penguins making 11 goal attempts.
The result in the end was Islanders winning the game 9-3.
