New York Jets’, Darrelle Revis says Coach remained unaware of discord in team – NFL News Update
New York Jets’ cornerback, Darrelle Revis has become the latest player to point out the tension that existed in the Jets locker room and said that Coach Rex Ryan had been unaware of the prevalent situation.
The Jets’ locker room became the focus of media news towards the end of the season as the Jets were eliminated from the playoffs after an 8-8 ending.
Revis talking to the NFL Network pointed out that the locker room problems contributed to their team’s elimination from the playoffs. He also added that Ryan remained “unaware” about the scenario.
“After the season, we talked. Basically, he didn’t know a lot of things that were going on behind the scenes. It was just so much stuff. I’m really not going to get into it because some of the stuff is real deep. But he didn’t
know a lot of the things. He wanted people to say things to him. But obviously it didn’t come out.” Revis said.
This is something that is not new. Earlier another Jets player, LaDainian Tomlinson had disclosed that the locker room scenario was as bad as he was around and had added a serious note to the dispute between Santonio Holmes and
quarterback, Mark Sanchez. There were reports of a rift between the two and the media had highlighted the issue much in recent days.
Ryan had come out on the issue saying he had lost “pulse” of the team while admitting that he did not know much apart from just being present on the field. He had spoken of the need to be more involved in the day-today affairs
of the team.
Revis said that the past year was very frustrating not only for him but for the whole team.
Jets’ Owner, Woody Johnson played cool on the tension existing in the team saying that the differences between Sanchez and Holmes could be sorted out.
Rift in the team had become more apparent after some anonymous players took to the Daily News to call for Sanchez’s replacement with Peyton Manning. While one player hit out on the quarterback, saying he was “lazy” and “content”.
Even Tomlinson had gone on to say that Sanchez was a bit “pampered” as there was no one to give him competition or take over his job.
That had led to the coach, the general manager and the owner coming forward to extend their support for Sanchez.
However, the discord in the Jets team seems far from over and Ryan will have a pretty tough time to sort out the issues the team is now faced with.
